Determining Improvement Direction

Capability of our process containing ZST, ZLT and Z-Shift can be mapped on the Improvement Matrix below.

Picture M.11 Improvement Matrix

Improvement matrix contains 2 axis, X axis as Z-Short term, and Y axis as Z-Shift. ZST axis shows the level of ZST of process. Bigger of value ZST will be mapped on right side. Horizontal axis has a tendency of the technology of our process. Technology will affect to the spreading of the distribution. Therefore, the improvement direction is how to shifting the position of our process on the right.

Z-Shift has a tendency to process control. Better controlling of the process (control external causes) will drive of our process fit the target shown by smaller of Z-Shift value. Our objective is how to make our process has a small value of Z-Shift. Smaller Z-Shift will be located in bottom position. Overall of six sigma’s project aim to shifting present condition to the “The Dream Position” level. The Dream Position indicates that process have a good control (fit the target) and good technology (small variation).
